Can distancing bring us together?

What is Three Circles Foundation doing during the COVID 19 crisis to stay in touch with our campers and their families?

Calling all campers! We contacted all our current campers and/or their guardians. Most of the families are doing well and were quite a blessing to us during our chats. Thankfully, a few families shared some needs and we were able to help. We discovered food shortages we were able to help with. After learning that one of our youth’s mother had 2 strokes recently, we were able to get the process started for building them a disability ramp. Most importantly, we were able to provide a listening ear, some practical advice and encouragement that the Lord sees them in their situation and cares for them deeply.

Cabin fever! The group foster home we visit weekly is under a complete shut-in. This weekly ministry is a TCF program we call Truth Talks. Our volunteers have set up a schedule for calling one youth at a time each week to check-in, encourage and listen. A few months ago, I learned the depth and trust of these Truth Talks relationships. During heated situations with certain youth, the group home staff allow the disgruntled youth a phone call to one of the Truth Talks volunteers as a coping mechanism! What a testament to the “ministry of presence”!

Meet people where they are! Currently unsure of the timeline of this COVID19 pandemic, we are discussing how to stay in touch with our youth virtually. Online mentoring, group video Bible studies and letter writing are just a few options we are considering. We seek the Lord’s wisdom about showing these youth they are valuable and cared for during a time where fear and anxiety are knocking at the door.

Thank you for your crucial role in building relationships with youth from hard places. Thank you for the opportunity to look these young people in the eyes and say “The Lord has created you to be something no one else can ever be. I want to walk you as we figure that out together!” Thank you for bringing… “Life Hope For Youth.”
